Sawadee krub, pud pasa thai dai mai?
« on: April 12, 2010, 02:22:02 AM »
Hello! This is going to be my first post ^^

On the evening of 9 April 2010, a French artist and his German friend came to my host's house to sell some paintings. I didn't really know who he was until my host mom came and told me to meet him because he had a painting he did from Thailand!!! So I went to see the picture; it was a painting of two took-tooks (very beautiful). But that's not what surprised me, what surprised me was that he spoke Thai!!!! He told me ‘Sawadee krub, pud pasa Thai dai mai?’ it was amazing, we talked for a while; he was incredibly good in Thai; as if he had mastered it! He said he had learned Thai in Chiang mai for only 3 months!!! 3 months!!! Only a short time, he can speak fluently in Thai. After that, the artist went home; he couldn’t sell any of his paintings (my host house has paintings everywhere, there’s even more in the basement). It was getting late so I had a shower, dressed up and went to bed.
At first I thought that was the end of meeting him until the next day, he and his friend came and invited me to go to the city of Landshut!!! It was incredibly fun; I was mostly talking Thai all the time with the French artist (haha), I haven’t speak Thai for so long (after the LOC; Late Orientation Camp). He is actually the first foreigner here that I met that can speak Thai and the first friend that is an artist (painter), so many things I got in Germany, AFS is amazing! ^^

P.S. I’m typing in English because AFS is an international program, so use English! Hahahahahahahahaha

That's awesome : D
I also feel good when seeing foreigners speak (or at least -- try to) speak Thai.
Thailand is a nation that is rich in beautiful cultures and Thai language is wonderful! Since the language itself is considered unique in many ways.

I agree with P'Mix that everyone can learn languages, but not everyone is fluent. That must be his talent, and yes, plus his interest. =D

Hey!! It was amazing! My story almost the same , but in my case it was long long time ago :D I mean at least 6-7 months. He is one of my classmate and had stayed in Thailand as an exchange student for a year. (honestly,10 months) He came to me and say "Sawas - d - krub" How surprised it was!!! He can speak Thai. I was schocking for a while and then start to talk to him in Thai. (so sorry,I wasn't able to speak in Hungarian anymore xD ) He was a student of Thepsirin school :D Then we start to be friend and he had lots of Thai songs. He likes KARABAO. He also said that when he came back here, someone told him that he is crazy becasue of smiling all the time, but he said he just get used to with it. Thai people always smile to him. That was what he said to me! haha So funny.

Fra Akersgata til Sognefjord
Fra Nidaros til Operahuset
Kunngjøre ''Thai'' til verden
