Welcome to America,

I hope you have a wonderful trip. This bulletin is a place for you to ask questions concerning about host family, host school, friends, neighborhood and travel issue (including how to get a travel permission). พี่หวังว่าน้อง ๆ ทุกคนคงจะเดินทางมาอย่างมีความสุข และมีเป้าหมายที่จะใช้ชีวิตในสหรัฐอเมริกาตลอด 11 เดือนนี้ อย่างคุ้มค่า แต่การที่จะใช้ชีวิตอย่างมีความสุขอย่างเดียว คงจะเป็นไปได้ยาก ดังนั้น หากน้อง ๆ AFS-USA 48 คนไหน มีปัญหา ข้อสงสัย ในขณะเข้าร่วมโครงการ ไม่ว่าจะเป็นปัญหาเกี่ยวกับครอบครัวอุปถัมภ์ โรงเรียนอุปถัมภ์ เพื่อน ชุมชน หรือการขอใบอนุญาตต่าง ๆ น้อง ๆ สามารถเขียนคำถาม หรือข้อสงสัยต่าง ๆ ลงในกระทู้นี้ พี่ต้นไม้ และอาสาสมัคร AFS-USA พร้อมที่จะให้ความช่วยเหลือกับน้อง ๆ ให้ได้อย่างถูกต้อง และเหมาะสม

ก็ให้ซึ้อ sim card เอานะครับ

ไปร้าน AT&T หรือ T-Mobile บอกเค้าว่าอยากซึ้อ prepaid sim card

แล้วเค้าก็จะขายให้เราครับ ถ้า T-Mobile ต้องจ่ายค่าธรรมเนียม 30 เหรียญหรือไงนี่แหละ จำไม่ได้ ซิมฟรี แต่ต้องเสียตังค์ค่าเติมครั้งแรก ถ้า AT&T รู้สึกต้องจ่ายค่าเปิดซิมเท่า ๆ กัน เป็นค่าเติมเงิน

โปรโมชั่นต่าง ๆ ก็เข้าไปในเว็ปของ 2 เจ้านี้ เลือกดูตรง plan > prepaid ดูนะครับ ลองดูก่อน แล้ว ถ้าชอบโปรไหน ก็บอกคนขายไป เค้าจะได้ตั้งค่าไว้ให้ แต่ถ้าจะเปลี่ยนโปรทีหลัง ก็ค่อยโทรไปเปลี่ยนก็ได้ครับ (ศึกษารายละเอียดที่คู่มือซิมการ์ดหลังซื้อ)

ถ้าโปรที่พี่เคยใช้ ของ AT&T เป็น โทรในเครือข่าย ทั้งมือถือ และเบอร์บ้าน AT&T ฟรี ตลอด 24 ชั่วโมง โทรนอกเครือข่าย นาทีละ 10 เซ็นต์ แต่ต้องเสียค่าพื้นฐาน 1 ดอลล่า เมื่อมีการโทรเข้า รับสาย หรือส่ง SMS/MMS ในวันนั้น ๆ

it would be helpful if you have one. Usually you will get the red address book where you can see all contacts of your friends and liaisons. if you didn't get one, ask your local volunteers during next orientation.

Because every time I call , there is no answer.

Just press 66 then the number (without 0) or I have to call some number first!

Please use a phone card and follow instruction. The recommended website to buy a cheap phone card is http://www.thaitel.com

If you use regular dial, on a cell phone you can dial +66 (area code without 0)(your phone number)

for example: Lane Line +66 2 990 9990 / cell phone: +66 89 990 9990

usually the + symbol is going to appear when you hold "0" button for 3-4 seconds

If you use land phone to call, you may have to ask your phone operator (usually AT&T or Verizon) about how to call to international distance. Go to their websites and find out yourself.

I also recommend you to use Skype to call back to Thailand. It's an instant messaging software where you can use it as a phone to call anywhere. Please visit http://www.skype.com for more detail.

my host family said
I have to pay 25 bucks to activate it and 10 bucks per month
Theirs are Verizon Wireless; Family plan
and I heard that this network's cell
cannot be used in Thailand
because there's no place for simcard

I want to know if it's too expensive or not
Is it neccessary for an exchange student to have a cell phone?

Is the family plan including free texting?

I know nothing about cell phone here
