I think it's up to your luck duay na
they random the states for everyone
some said that they don't like hot weather
but the states they got are Texas, Kansas and so on

I'm in Virginia
there were 2 students who were going to VA
But before I went to USA 1 week
I got my host family
but another student she had not got one

It came out that she had to be in Ohio
so i'm the only Thai student in VA

Then I asked my host parents was it hard to find a host family
The said because of the schools' quota, county's law and economic

For example, I am placed in Oakton, VA and my host parents' house is in
the area of Oakton High School so every student in this area must go to OHS

Moreover, OHS has the quota of exchange students which is eight. I guess i'm the last exchange student from the quota. There might be host family who wanted to host an exchange student but the quota is full so they could not host one.

Oakton High School is one of the schools in Fairfax county. This county has the rule for hosting an exchange student; those exchange students have to be 16 years old when they arrive. I guess that is why another Thai student could not come to VA :( How sad

And most families in Northern VA area like to host German students because they felt that they can related to European students more than Asian ones or their ancestors were Germans

So now i'm a rare stuff hahaha :)

Nong Mine is right

AFS is randomly placing students. However, statistically AFS participants who come from the urban area are more likely to be placed in the rural or suburban area, while AFS participants who come from the rural area are more likely to be placed in the urban. Again, this is just the statistics and it couldn't mean AFS places students base on this information.

Moreover, what you wrote on your application also affect the decision of your host family. Because in every area team, they all have urban, suburban and rural environments and it is also base on their ethnic background whether who they want to host.

Anyway, it depends on many factors. No direct conclusion for this!

They all random!
IAH= Texas, Arkansas, Misourri and Kansas not sure have oklahoma or not?
Even you know you go to IAH, not everyone always stay in Texas

When I know I'm coming to IAH,I don't wanna be here same as some AFser
Cause the frist thing you think about this zone is hot weather!

But now I'm here in Arkansas, the weather is crazy!
It's freakin' cold here!! And in Arkansas has snow too!

Don't expect too much that you will be where you want
Cause when you come here you will always think that your town is the best!
Even it's not where you wanna live
