How to ask AFS? How long does it take to tell AFS before?
No you can't. According to AFS rules, you can't do the individual travel until February 2011.If you want to plan for individual travel in February and onward, you have to contact your Area Team Support Coordinator or your Liaison for "Travel Waiver Form" You have to get both your host parents and your parents back home signed.
Have them signed and send to AFS office in Thailand. You can send the Travel Waiver Form to your parents in Thailand by email and let them sign and scan the paper, save it in PDF and send to Khun Rujira Kansong (email:
[email protected]), AFS Thailand Support Coordinator
This process should take at least 1 week. Be sure to get the waiver signed before you plan to travel. I think it would be best if you can find a contact of your AFS friends in New York and ask if their host families can let you stay. This way will make sure that AFS New York City (EZ-Pass) know that you're visiting the city so they can take care of you in case of emergency.
There is also a Belo Trip to New York for AFS students (with a fee). Once I have the information about Belo USA trips this year, I will post it here.
